Blessed are the Girls

Set in the summer of 2004, Blessed Are The Girls takes a 360 view into a group of girls as they navigate desire and young womanhood. If someone betrays you, who do you become? In this coven of girls, a teenage crush turns into a sinister obsession. Tread lightly, when you play in water you drown.

“Unlike ‘Mean Girls,’ ‘Clueless,’ or any other comedy about teen girls, Blessed offers a rich discussion about the roles of virginity, purity, ownership, and betrayal through the lens of a bloody, ornate Feminist thriller and a cultural backdrop of the early 2000s.” - Alexandra VanZwieten, Director

In February of 2021, Alexandra VanZwieten, Maggie Wehr, and Lucy began to work on a theatrical adaptation of Our Lady of the Quarry by Mariana Enriquez, as their final project as Pace University in the International Performance Ensemble. In February of 2022, after a year of the devising process, they premiered their theatrical adaptation at the 2022 NOW Festival under the name Blessed Are The Girls.

Beautifully directed and co-written by Alexandra (who is an unstoppable force of a director) and excellently performed by Maggie, Lucy is so proud of this production that spanned an entire year and two continents to make.
